The Milford Sound area receives an average of 7 meters of rain per year.
That's about 23 feet for those of you that don't operate on the metric system.
Let me make it perfectly clear - that's a heck of a lot of rain. The area is
surrounded by rainforest. It also means these mountains are laced with
waterfalls. Driving into this region (on a road not for the feignt of heart)
there are waterfalls about every hundred meters or so. And these are waterfalls
that are coming down 1000 meter cliffs. Pretty spectacular.
We had a perfect day for the cruise. Sunny and warm. I have a feeling
these days don't happen often here.
The light wasn't right to catch it well, but Mitre Peak is magnificent.
