The Whanganui River Road is an interesting drive. It's a very narrow
dirt road along the Whanganui River valley. Along this road there are a number of
interesting Maori sites. I wish I'd had more time to explore this area. I was
surprised to enjoy the church in Hiruhama (also known as Jerusalem). It is an
interesting combination of Catholicism and Maori tradition.
As you enter the church, this interesting art work is just inside the door.
The pulpit, if that's what this is, is beautifully carved.
Here's a picture of the front of the inside of the church.
And the back of the church, with another beautiful piece of Maori art.
